The Global VSAT Forum offers certification training for operators responsible for maintaining broadband communications at sea and field technicians who install, align, test, connect, commission, maintain and repair satellite systems on vessels.

Fundamentals for Marine VSAT operators – GVF 561
Topics covered include concepts of VSAT communications, microwave signal characteristics, satellite coverage zones and pointing angles, beam switching, stabilized antennas, blockage, interconnections to ship’s navigation systems, safety issues, critical licensing questions, preventing interference and comparing VSAT with other marine communications services.
The course serves as the first step towards GVF Specialist Operator and Advanced Marine VSAT Installation and Maintenance Certifications.
Operating the Sea Tel Marine VSAT – GVF 562E, 562E-IMA
The course covers fundamental aspects of how to monitor, operate and perform at-sea maintenance of a SeaTel ’09 series (GVF 562E) or IMA series (GVF 562E-IMA) marine VSAT terminal.
Topics covered include hardware components of the SeaTel VSAT terminal, principles of operation of the terminal, start-up and shutdown procedures, operating controls using the front panel or built-in web pages, satellite modem operation, operator-level troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
Operating the SpaceTrack Marine VSAT GVF562T
Containing necessary knowledge and skills for technicians responsible for operating and monitoring a SpaceTrack 4000 series VSAT terminal at sea. Animation and simulator-based interactivity are used throughout the course to explain critical skills and concepts.
Topics covered include hardware components of the SpaceTrack VSAT terminal, principles of operation of the terminal, start-up and shutdown procedures, operating controls using the front panel or built-in web pages, satellite modem operation, operator-level troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
Advanced Sea Tel Training – GVF 503E
The programme encompasses operation, installation and maintenance of VSAT, marine and mobile/SNG satellite terminals, in addition to general satcom theory.
Topics covered include principles of vessel motion, stabilised antenna operations and SeaTel terminal details including configuring and monitoring techniques.
The online course is appropriate for engineers and field technicians who are responsible for installing and commissioning Sea Tel marine stabilised terminals, support staff interacting with field technicians and personnel who need a solid understanding of Sea Tel terminals.
Supplement course GVF 503E-S1 covers Sea Tel IMA systems, including the MXP control unit. GVF 520, 561 and 562E. GVF 503E must be completed before commencing GVF 503E-S1.
SpaceTrack Marine Terminal Installation GVF 503T
Advanced SpaceTrack 4000 training
Topics covered include principles of vessel motion, stabilised antenna operations and SpaceTrack terminal details including configuring and monitoring techniques. All equipment is explained, including the SpaceTrack gimballed mount, antenna and RF components, control system components, and navigation system connections.
Details on satellite acquisition and tracking, mount balance concepts, operating modes, performing site surveys, installation and assembly, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting are also covered.
